Furniture Overview Summary: This page explains requirements for furniture purchases. The University has a primary source agreement with Steelcase, Inc. for the purchase of furniture used in an office or office-like environment. This includes the following items:
The university's preferred supplier for furniture of the types described above is Steelcase/PBI. Note: Steelcase is the furniture manufacturer, and PBI is the distributor. Contact Donna Gorman for assistance, as needed (459-2188). Contract Pricing: UC discounts for Steelcase products range from 55% to 71% off list prices. Physical Planning and Construction Review: All purchases and installation of modular, systems or workstation furniture must be managed by PP&C to ensure ADA compliance, and seismic bracing and building code compliance. (This does not include free-standing furniture, desks, chairs and file cabinets.)Modular, systems, or workstation furniture includes panels that create cubicles, and may also create passageways, etc. These fabric panels may modify the original layout of the room being furnished, and create building code concerns for accessibility, and seismic and fire safety. Submit a completed Facilities Project Request (FPR) to PP&C explaining the scope of the work to be done. Signed FPRs may be faxed to PP&C: 423-7436. Mendel Spritzer (502-7129), PP&C Sr. Architect Associate, provides an overall project estimate, orders furniture, and coordinates electrical, phone, data and campus craft workers. Mendel works to minimize the impact to the department caused by furniture installation. Space Planning Services: Peninsula Business Interiors (PBI) provides the following services:
Design Charges: Charges for design work are incorporated into the contract plan at 2% of product list price. This percentage fee covers:
Orders for free-standing furniture where design services are not required are not charged the additional 2% design fee. Related LinksLast revised: November 21, 2007 (am)
