Approaching UCSC as a Supplier

Summary: This page provides information for supplier who want to market their goods and services to UCSC.

UC Santa Cruz has many decentralized decision-making entities: colleges, divisions, and departments. For many standard supply items, the University negotiates volume discounts with manufacturers and distributors. But for other items, quality, service and specialized inventory are key to meeting the needs of departments and to doing business with UC Santa Cruz.

• Mail or fax a completed, signed Business Information Form to Purchasing, (831) 459-3300, attention Kim Smith.

• Determine who buys your product or service. Target your sales effort to departments likely to need your products.

• Consider purchasing the UC Santa Cruz Campus Directory at the UCSC Bay Tree Bookstore (831-459-4544). It contains names, titles, positions, addresses, and telephone numbers of people you may want to contact.

• Contact the Purchasing Department to determine who is responsible for purchasing the product(s) or service(s) you sell.

  • Ask the buyer how they prefer to receive information (via telephone, fax, mail, e-mail, or in person) and what type of information (brochures, line cards, catalogs, etc.) is most helpful.
  • If you want to demonstrate your product, contact the relevant buyer to see if special arrangements can be made, e.g. referral to individuals to contact to arrange for your demonstration, or coordinating participation by several interested University departments.
