Purchasing Facts for Suppliers Summary: This page provides information about the UCSC purchasing process. The University makes every effort to ensure that all persons, regardless of race, religion, sex, color, ethnicity, and national origin have equal access to contracts and other business opportunities with the University. UCSC Purchasing works to ensure that all conduct, in reference to the procurement of goods and services on behalf of the University, is in accordance with the procedures set forth by the Regents of the University of California, the Office of the President and the applicable laws of the State of California. Purchasing also ensures that in any business transaction the requirements for competition have been met, negotiations have been conducted according to established policies and that the public trust has not been compromised by the conduct of UCSC buyers. We recognize the important services rendered by our suppliers in helping us to fulfill requirements in an economical and efficient manner. We work to assure equality of opportunity for small business enterprises, through our Supplier Diversity Program. Goods and services are procured by the University using both purchase orders and pro-card. A pro-card is a credit card that is issued to authorized employees for the purpose of making low dollar purchases of routine supply items. Contracts for goods and services are awarded through informal and formal quotations, the formal bid process, or using established agreements or negotiated pricing. The Buyer determines the appropriate mechanism for each purchase. Sources for selection of vendors include, but are not limited to, UC System-wide Agreements, UCSC Local Agreements, and State of California contracts.
